(for the art-and-wine wanderer; just 2,500 bottles)
You arrive in Chianti Classico the way painters approach a blank canvas—breath held, eyes searching for the first true line. Somewhere between Florence and Siena, the road kinks, cypresses salute, and a weathered sign with a black rooster reminds you you’ve crossed into a republic of taste that has flown its banner since the Middle Ages. The symbol is no mere decoration; it’s inheritance—the old League’s emblem reborn as the Gallo Nero that still guards these hills.
In the glass, Ara Coeli looks like cathedral light trapped in garnet. On the nose: red cherry and wild berry, the kind you swear you just brushed off your sleeve after pushing through a hedgerow, with a quiet undertone of warm brick and sun-dried herb. (If you listen closely, you might hear sandals on stone.) This is Sangiovese speaking in its mother tongue—firm-jawed, elegant, a touch austere before it remembers to smile.
