Ugolini "Valle Alta" Amarone della Valpolicella 2016 single vineyard cru. From the "High Valley" vineyard which hangs on a ridge for dear life at 885 feet in elevation. Its fossilized soils whisper secrets of the Earth's history while passing on fruit and minerals to an Amarone beyond our imaginations. A fruit-forward Amarone of elegance, finesse, and ease of drinkability. 3,233 bottles handcrafted. The 2016 vintage was given a 5-star rating according to the Valpolicella Consortium and therefore one of the most ageworthy Amarone in the past 30 years.. A long, hot, but not dry summer. It gave healthy and
concentrated grapes, thus giving life to elegant and complex wines.
Definitely a great vintage!
The grapes
Corvina gentile, Corvina grossa, Rondinella and Oseleta.
The winemaking
After the grapes have been pressed, the wine stays in containers which allow the tertiary aromatic complexation and the strengthening of the body.
This process lasts approximately seven months, after which we proceed to a fundamental step for the improvement of the final harmony in tasting: the rest of the wine in 50 liter glass demijohns, hermetically sealed, for a very long period of seven years .
Finally, before going on the market, the wine is bottled and it stays there for about a year, to refine the overall balance and elegance.
The wine
An intense ruby red colour with reflections of pomegranate. Hints of red fruit jam, cherries preserved in alcohol, Marasca cherries and dried fruit, along with sweet spicy notes such as tobacco, coffee, cocoa, liquorice and nutmeg. A velvety, full-bodied, elegant and smooth yet dry taste.
Food pairing
Strong and mature cheeses; succulent cured meats; pot roasts, game or grilled meats; dark (but not too bitter) chocolate
A wine that has won over time, critics, and the most discerning palates recognized and awarded by:
