Corte dei Venti Rosso di Montalcino. The estate name "Corte dei Venti" means "Court of the Winds." Owner and winemaker Clara di Monaci changed her family's estate name after the ambiance of her land. At 1,000 feet above sea level in the south of Montalcino, Tuscany, and just below Clara's vineyard you'll find the Orcia River. That river goes out to the Tyrrhenian Sea. This channel carries the sea winds to her vineyards. And that does two things: the winds prevent insects from infestation the vineyard which means there is zero use of pesticides; and two, the sea winds transport minerality to the Brunello grapes giving the wine a unique mineral component.

Full body, with ripe cherry fruit, red flowers, spices, black truffle, dark roast undertones, and river mist minerality. 6,000-8,000 bottles per annum depending on the vintage.

If you can only afford a $40 Brunello di Montalcino from your liquor store, you're not going to get the experience you're hoping for. Instead, you'd be better off buying a high-quality Rosso di Montalcino.

This wine is essentially a Brunello with the Rosso di Montalcino label because the grapes come from the same vineyard plot as their Brunello. If you're looking for a hidden gem value wine, this gets you top-class wine at a reasonable price.
